The Art of making Friends. ( and perhaps how to maintain the relationship )
University opens a whole new world, new, foreign people ambush you almost everyday.
You either meet them at lectures, tutorials, or perhaps lab sessions or practicals.
Possibly, the most polite or socially correct thing to do is then to make an attempt, feeble or not, entirely depends on your mood, for a small talk.
From there and then on, you might become best buddies, or just normal friends. Depends entirely on your chemistry with the person.
Sometimes I feel that it is really chemistry that brings people together.
That first impression that person sends you, when you guys talk, if it feels "right".
If that person belongs on the same wave length as you do.
Some people while being unbelievably nice, like I have met, just dont function on the same frequency as I do. Awkward silences push their way through us, filling up the voids. Bringing uneasiness.
Others, when met for the time, click instantaneously, must like how lego pieces come together.
Awkwardness hasnt have the slightest chance of intruding.
I believe strongly in affinity. It may sound silly, but I really do. Like its affinity that led me to meet certain people, to experience a plethora of emotions, of self questioning, of thinking. Of understanding , of thanking.

The art of maintaining a friendship is an entire different ball game all together.
Effort, effort and more effort. Since the original chemistry has been set, all that's left is effort.
Its a bit like being romantically involved with a lot of people all at the same time, with all genders.
Friends also need surprises every now and then, they need somebody to care and being cared by, they need concern, they need attention, they need understanding, they need someone they can bitch to, they need the sense of security, they need to see you physically, they need to know that you'll be there.
So there, its not always easy. But I try my best to make it work.
Friends are like bonds and stocks in the exchange market. They make you happy during normal times, during financial growth, when the economy outlook is good.
Old friends on the other hand are like bonds, they keep you afloat during recessions, they are the thing that you immediately turn to should the market show any signs of crashing.
Old friends like old used blankets, scoring low in the looks department, being very used and faded. But an old used blanket has your smell on it, that familiar warmth that not everyone can replace, something that you come back at the end of the day. So much security.
I am rambling on now.
Its been weighing on my mind with much significance.
Will or can close friends turn into more than that?
